How blockchain is boosting economic growth:

Connectivity

Blockchain can extend connectivity to communities that traditional telecoms leave behind. Karrier One lets local operators deploy 4G/5G and WiFi coverage and earn crypto for it, powering a network of more than 401,000 unique cellular users and over 62 million sessions, including a partnership connecting Indigenous communities in Canada.

AI-driven commerce

Stablecoins are digitally native, programmable money built for Canada's future economy. In its 2025 update, Stripe said AI agents will most likely soon be responsible for most internet transactions, and we will likely need stablecoins on blockchains to support them.

Mining and supply chain

Blockchains can strengthen global supply chain tracking and establish provenance. MineHub is using blockchain to make commodity supply chains faster, more transparent, and more efficient.

Digital identity

Blockchain can give Canadians a secure, portable way to prove who they are online. SecureKey Technologies built Verified.Me, Canada's first blockchain-based digital identity verification network, backed by seven major Canadian banks, enables Canadians to reach more than 280 government services with a single verified identity.

Clinical trials

Blockchain can make clinical trials faster, cheaper, and more transparent for patients. Boehringer Ingelheim Canada and IBM Canada ran Canada's first blockchain-based clinical trial pilot. Results showed that monitoring visit times and cost per visit each fell by nearly 99%, while 91% of participants reported improved patient trust.

Payment

Stablecoins offer faster and cheaper payments for Canadian consumers and businesses. Shopify merchants can accept stablecoins through Shopify Payments, allowing Canadian businesses to avoid the 1.5–3.5% typically charged on credit card transactions.
