Stand With Crypto Commends Senate Majority Leader Thune for Filing Cloture on the CLARITY Act
Millions of crypto advocates nationwide welcome progress towards passing the CLARITY Act, call on lawmakers in both parties to support clear rules of the road for digital assets
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Stand With Crypto — America’s leading crypto advocacy organization — thanked U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) for announcing a cloture vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, which will occur in September when the chamber returns from recess. This brings crypto owners, developers, and advocates nationwide closer to the clear regulatory framework for digital assets they have long made their top policy priority.
Following the announcement, Mason Lynaugh, executive director of Stand With Crypto, issued the following statement:
"We commend Majority Leader Thune for his leadership in advancing the CLARITY Act. Despite the cloture vote not being held until after recess, today’s filing is a victory for the crypto users, developers, and advocates who have been waiting years for a framework that protects them, unlocks innovation, and secures America’s leadership in the global digital economy.
“In scheduling a cloture vote, Leader Thune has shown that he hears the needs of the crypto community – which has contacted members of Congress over one million times in support of CLARITY – and agrees that market structure legislation must continue to be a priority this session. The Senate must now finish the job. The path to a final vote is clear; there's no reason for further delay.
"Stand With Crypto thanks the senators on both sides of the aisle who consistently showed up at the negotiating table and worked to get the CLARITY Act to this point. Stand With Crypto’s three million advocates will be mobilizing in their communities during August recess to ensure their senators understand the urgency and necessity of enacting a fair, transparent legal framework that creates a financial system benefitting every American.”
Stand With Crypto will score senators’ votes on the CLARITY Act cloture and final votes, and will incorporate them into lawmakers’ scorecards so that every voter can understand where their elected officials stand on crypto priorities.
