New Poll: New Jersey Crypto Voters were a Pivotal Voting Bloc in the Democratic Primary Election
Stand With Crypto survey reveals pro-crypto Democratic primary voters helped Rep. Mikie Sherrill secure Democratic nomination
June 17, 2025
TRENTON, N.J. — Stand With Crypto, America’s leading crypto advocacy organization, today released a new survey revealing that New Jersey’s crypto voters are playing a deciding role in the state’s gubernatorial race — and were pivotal in helping Rep. Mikie Sherrill clinch the Democratic nomination for New Jersey governor. The survey data indicates that crypto voters are a mobilized, influential constituency for whom candidates’ crypto stances are a motivating factor at the ballot box.
Following the June 10th primary, Stand With Crypto surveyed more than 1,000 New Jersey Democratic primary voters, assessing their attitudes toward cryptocurrency and how candidates’ cryptocurrency stances affected their vote choice.
“As this survey finds, crypto owners and advocates in New Jersey are an undeniable force in driving the outcome of our state’s most important elections,” said Carlos Iván Merino, President of Stand With Crypto New Jersey. “The results of last week’s Democratic gubernatorial primary were determined in part by candidates’ crypto stances, proving candidates in both major parties should embrace a pro-crypto platform prioritizing innovation, economic prosperity, and financial freedom.”
The full results of the survey can be found here, but key findings include:
- Pro-Crypto Stances Resonated with Democratic Voters: 57% of voters said that they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who supports pro-crypto policies, and 62% said that each candidate’s position on cryptocurrency influenced their vote choice at least “a little.” A sizable 17% of voters responded that each candidate’s position on cryptocurrency influenced their vote choice “a lot.”
- Crypto Voters were a Pivotal Part of Mikie Sherrill’s Coalition: 39% of voters who reported casting their ballots for Mikie Sherrill were late-deciders, who made up their minds a week or less before the election. 54% of late-deciders who voted for Mikie Sherrill said they were more likely to vote for a candidate who supports pro-crypto policies, and 65% said that each candidate’s position on cryptocurrency influenced their vote choice. Voters who currently or have previously owned cryptocurrency comprise 46% of Sherrill late-deciders.
- Crypto Voters are a Powerful Voting Bloc: Of New Jersey’s Democratic voters, one-in-four (25%) report currently owning cryptocurrency. Three in five (59%) Democratic primary voters agree that the candidates for governor should support pro-crypto policies that would position New Jersey as a national leader, and 56% are at least somewhat interested in cryptocurrency.
- Stand With Crypto is Helping Grow the Crypto Movement: 40% of voters report being very or somewhat familiar with Stand With Crypto. That figure grows to a 69% majority among current crypto owners, and a 53% majority of voters who are interested in cryptocurrency.
“Stand With Crypto has been committed to mobilizing the crypto community around New Jersey’s gubernatorial election,” Merino said. “We are fighting for clear, sensible crypto policy that fosters innovation and empowers crypto entrepreneurs in the Garden State. We look forward to working with both gubernatorial candidates over the coming months to ensure they will prioritize policies that secure New Jersey’s – and America’s – future in the blockchain economy.”
In the leadup to the primary, Stand With Crypto worked to mobilize voters across the state, hosting a “get out the vote” rally in Jersey City that featured appearances from candidates vying for the governorship on both sides of the aisle. Stand With Crypto also served as the lead sponsor of the primary debates last month, leveraging its infrastructure across the Garden State to drive voters to the polls.
New Jersey is home to nearly 65,000 Stand With Crypto advocates. When considering that the margin of victory in the last governor’s race was slightly more than 80,000 votes, New Jersey’s passionate crypto voters could be the make-or-break for the next governor come election day.
Over the past two years, Stand With Crypto has built a community-led movement to mobilize and harness the voice of America’s 52 million crypto owners into a powerful voting bloc, championing clear, common-sense regulations for the crypto industry and unlocking crypto’s innovation potential while fostering greater economic opportunity and freedom.
